March’s ride out will be a jaunt through the Sussex and Kent Weald, down some well-trodden trails familiar to many Smarties. Muster from 9.30 at McDonalds East Grinstead for a prompt departure at 10.00, thence via the A264 through Ashurst, Groombridge, Frant and the various hursts to Headcorn Aerodrome where we will rendezvous with any late-slumbering men (and women) of Kent at the Holding Point café. Thus fortified, we will take a circuitous route via the various dens to Ashford where lies in store the gastronomic challenge of the Airport café. Survivors will re-group and continue across the windswept marshes via West Hythe, New Romney, Lydd, Camber Sands and Rye to Tenterden to thaw their frozen fingers at one or other coffee houses, before a final departure to re-trace our steps west to East Grinstead.
Mostly A and B roads with a few well surfaced single tracks, but apply the usual caution for winter potholes and loose gravel. Mileages vary between 37 and 39 for each leg. Petrol at East Grinstead before we start of course, but also fairly close to our stop at Ashford and as we pass through Rye.
